As I walked out on a bright May morning...

Writer: philoggukphilogguk

How many folk songs begin with that line, or something similar? Lusty May is almost here, and May Day - morning of maypoles, morris dancing, dawn chorusing and early breakfasts, as well as Workers' Day and the Durham Miners' Gala - is always something to celebrate. The light these mornings pre-dawn has been amazing, a red glow in the east and then a blaze as the sun appears behind the trees of the eucalyptus forest. Definitely worth getting up early for! So, if you fancy it, please join me by standing outside tomorrow 1st May from c5.20am. The birds have been practising their songs, the sun will be there - we're just waiting for you :)

That is some really beautiful morning light. See you with the pajaritos! The Grand River Folk Arts Society season usually culminates in a May Day contra dance and potluck at a county park lodge, including string band, wrapping the maypole, and as many morris dancers as they can muster. It’s just at the right time of year for the trilliums to be blooming in the woods around the lodge and for the woodchucks to be running around all frisky at dusk.
