A little late if you're on UK-time, but here's today's posting and Laura song!
Lovely rehearsal this morning with Ayo - what fun to collaborate on a programme for young people, their families and carers, and all other interested parties, on a Christmassy theme! We'll deliver it online next Saturday 18th Dec, 2pm UK-time, on Soundabout's facebook page - all welcome!! After all these many months mostly working solo, it was amazing to actually play with another musician in the same room! :))
The livestream should appear here next Sat at 2pm: https://www.facebook.com/SoundaboutUK/
Today's Laura track is the song that she was commissioned to write for an excellent, informative and sobering documentary about the theft of land from Native American people - the doc is really worth watching here https://youtu.be/W5z8OgMfXXc
It's quite a tall order to produce a song that fits such a context, that doesn't get in the way of the subject matter and amplifies the message. In a 1994 interview, Laura says: "That was an unusual writing situation... I mean that was a big responsibility. Somehow it had to be simpatico with the documentary. Thank the Triple Goddess it was. (laughs)"
I love her sense of humour! Even in the darkest situation, a sense of humour can save the day...
Enjoy! https://youtu.be/cxGaBQ04BYM
Billy's cocktail is hot! - Appropriate H&S advice has been given!! He thinks these things through so well!
Thankyou for the link to the documentary . It's unbelievable that the situation could get any worse for the indigenous peoples than presented at the start of the programme but we know it did. Laura managed to write that song so it didn't distract from the important message - such a difficult commission!
Humour to save the day. Yes we all need some of that! ;)
I'll catch up with the documentary later. Thanks for the song- I had heard it,but not listened enough to realise / remember what it was about . Thanks again.
You're an obvious choice for the Soundabout Christmas Special. Your shows deliver so much more! :))
