On this day (18th October) in 1947, my favourite "secret" singer-songwriter Laura Nyro was born in the Bronx, NY. I love her music so much! And just now I'm enjoying studying about her life a bit more (she left too soon in 1997), while delving into her back catalogue for this month's livestream! There was a time around 1968-71 where she was absolutely huge (at least in singer-songwriter circles) - working with the greatest musicians (see some of them in the pics below), composing prolifically and blazing a trail for women musicians with her passionate, poetic and unconventional songwriting and performance style. She faded from view during the later 70s and 80s, although maybe it was just that she wouldn't play the fame game. Anyway she's one of my total inspirations! I hope you'll enjoy hearing some of her music in this month's stream (I have to get practising!) https://youtu.be/gjfwnpIjarw - and here are some pics to introduce her, on her birthday :))
