Hope you're having a lovely Sunday! I really enjoyed this 1947 Japanese movie - One Wonderful Sunday! It's a very early Kurosawa, who's much more famous for epics like Seven Samurai and Ran. Set against a backdrop of bombed-out Tokyo and its rebuilding, it's part social realism and part affectionate story of two innocents trying to find their way in a very confusing time - it reminded me of Chaplin sometimes! There's a sweet imaginary cafe scene, and an incredible music scene with a very unexpected feature! What a gem - it's on the BFI Player with a free 7-day trial, or you can see it no strings attached here: https://www.sandsfilms.co.uk/cinema-club-past-streams-watch-now.html?mc_cid=b35af97b3d&mc_eid=30395ff13e

The childish tunes building through the film to a virtual symphony that breaks the forth wall works if you hear it all through their state of mind...they yearn for the innocence they lost. At the end they plead with us to join them. They are resigned to the complexity of this new world th…
Ok, this one looks more age-appropriate for everybody at our house than In the Mood for Love :D We’ll give it a try. Thanks!
I was surprised to recognise a few nursery rhymes from the playground scene and popular American tunes. As well as seeing a TRASH can.
