The Hoe at Plymouth makes for an unforgettable lookout point - and there's not so many cities where this kind of sea view is possible right from the town centre! There's plenty of space so you can always find your own perfect picnic spot. Have you seen the famous picture of the Beatles taken from here? Tropical palms are a novelty! Then there's all the seafaring history - the Navy and all the ordinary fishermen who sailed from here. The Wall of Memory is quite moving and 'lost at sea' is still being written. And the story of the Pilgrims - so well-known in one sense, but it's rare to see their actual names and think of them as individuals. Plymouth really was the Last of England. Salty pub The Dolphin is always a sparky place - shall we return when it reopens its doors? :)

A new film came out just before last Thanksgiving. It relies heavily on one firsthand account and includes Wampanoag tribal members and much of the native story, though still as part of the Pilgrim narrative. It’s important for us here in the US not to paint too rosy a picture and not to look away from the rolling effects the migration had https://www.pbs.org/video/american-experience-pilgrims/ or https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/pilgrims/#part01 It’s a full length film, but there are clips at those same links, if anyone just wants a quick dip in.
Let’s! But before or after The Dolphin, some time “In the Grass All Wine Colored.” The onlookers are interesting in the photo of The Beatles :) Look! There’s Nuestra Señora Estrella de la Mar. I definitely think of the Pilgrims as individuals because my existence depended on a couple of them: Edward Doty is my 8th-great grandpa and Henry Samson (there spelled Henery) is my 9th-great grandpa. Thanks for the family snaps ❤️ I’ll share this post with my family- they did it for us. I keep a crayon in my purse so it’s always along to take rubbings of cool plaques. Aw, thanks for another installment of a nice trip to Plymouth, Phil.
My education continues. I've just looked up Fustian maker- a maker of a heavy fabric with a nap, like cotton velvet. This is a place I certainly would like to visit. All that history And beauty. Great photos to entice visitors. Hamilton the musical just sprang to mind...'You'll be back!'- may be not quite in the spirit you intended, nevertheless its wirring round my head!!
