Session Delight - Laura Day 7

Missed the midnight deadline by a little bit - though of course, it depends on where you are... Just in from a jaunt to Truro and the Truro Folk Session. 2hrs by train from Totnes, but totally worth it. Drew and Susan (and usually Eric, though he couldn't come tonight) put such a lot into it to make sure everyone feels comfortable and welcome and things run smoothly. When I arrived there at 5.30pm, they were already there setting up, two hours before showtime... Great songs and stories from everyone in the room - you know it's a good session when you come back with a few tunes that you want to look up and learn...

Meanwhile, Laura's Day 7 is a little bit different. As well as all the covers people have made of her songs, she's also much sampled! I guess it's a sign of the power of her melodic phrases and the sense of groove... "Calling their children, like spoons in the wind..." (from 'Money') is such a brilliant line :))

Until both you and Amanda mentioned Sufjan several months back ,I had not heard of him. I've still not listened to many but this one is beautiful and yes,heartbreaking...

That's a good description of what happens with certain music!

Lovely pictures of the cosy looking pub and town:)) Along with the seemingly endless view looking out for trains - such a striking image.

Advent 7 - Not quite the lullaby my ears were hoping to hear in the early hours of this morning!! ;) I guess our reception to musical sounds is also about when and where and familiarity. My ears sample this sound a little better several hours later... and no doubt when I listen to it yet again towards the evening I'll appreciate it more .

Of course all this lead me to listen to the original song! :))

Ha ha, yes, I'm looking hopefully for the last train appearing in that pic... Definitely not a lullaby, but it grows on you! I guess it just shows Laura's reach. There's a famous Kanye track that samples her as well, though it's full of swearing...(not the Laura bit!) :)

It’s still not even 10pm on day 7 in this time zone, so you’re well under the wire :) It looks so warm and inviting! I’m hoping the veg cafe was open, so you could BYOF for the session. I see drink was no problem. I hope we’ll get to hear you do the new song or two you picked up. What’s the other language on the train sign? The groove on Laura is cool. We’ll try it in the mix at our next dance party, if we can keep Amanda from shutting us down by going astray while crowd surfing. Thank you for sharing :)

I’ve been to Romulus. I like the banjo. So I’ve heard it a few times because I’ve listened to that whole album a few times, but I was a careful listener this time. It’s very sad. It reminds me of a friend who was adopted by her grandparents. Mom means something different when that happens.
