The morning after the night before

Writer's picture: philoggukphilogguk

Thank you for coming to the solstice / midsummer night / make music day / birthday night-music lockdown livestreams! It's really brilliant picking up the chat as the evening unfolds, it feels very alive and closely-connected - thank you for all contributions and good wishes! Thank you too for all the brilliant contributions on the Over To You page - do check them out! If you missed the livestreams or would like to listen again, they're both still there on the YouTube channel. It was really interesting doing a late-night extra this time - a little bit sleepy there at 1am, but it felt special, relaxed and free. I think the late-night space could become more experimental! So watch out for more late-night one-offs! Incredibly, this was the tenth livestream we've done. Many nice things have come out of them! So I'm definitely planning to keep them running into the future... Heads-up on the next one - Weather Music! Please pencil in Wed 21st July and see you there! :))

Just listened to the Late Late Show now. Specially enjoyed your jazz and blues piano tonight Phil, and the Wee Small Hours was the perfect scene setter. As Closing Time is a perfect last goodbye.

thanks so much for all the great music.

PS Can you tell us the nature of the 4 Mendelssohn chords? My ears are not clever enough to name them....

I agree it’s the minor but also in the score it goes from two notes to four then five and finally, gloriously six. Expanding the range of the chord both up and down in pitch across the orchestra. Truly evoking the hazy veil between the two worlds…he opens those windows a little in the Hebrides too.

will the late night be the new …and missed…late junction? 🤓

I welcome the surreal addition…might go sit in the car ☺️

It does indeed feel special. The web page make a great difference too. I feel connected and enjoy what other people contribute and how the 'conversations' change and grow off each other.
