Day 22 coming in a little late - a crazy roundabout journey north yesterday, but great fun:
Totnes-Oxford-Tokyo-London-Newcastle in 12 hours :)
I went out of my way to Oxford to catch the Tokyo exhibition on at the Ashmolean Museum until 3rd Jan - worth the trip, and a bonus couple of hours looking around Oxford and the dreaming spires. I love secret visits like this!! Then back on the rails, across London and north to Newcastle on an empty train - a good day's travelling :))

Travelling and being in different cities is so inspiring. Laura's song today is one of the absolute classics, and soooo evocative of her hometown - not by describing the landmarks, but by tuning into the people and the poetry of the place. That line "You look like a city, but you feel like religion to me" is so incredible! Well, enjoy, and thanks, Laura. Great NY footage put with it too:
Also wanted to mention the excellent biography that I've used to research Laura Nyro's music these last few months: Soul Picnic, by Michele Kort. It's the ONLY book about LN, and it's a goodie, a labour of love by the author I think - thank you!
Finally, what's this?? Well, Laura's music is far-reaching and strong enough to withstand many different treatments: https://youtu.be/L9V9Y79r9Sg
Secret visits,- yes nice! But i prefer longer visits , they are more relaxing .
X for excitement. A great way to describe the instrumental!
So many different parts to that exhibition but I think the detail in both the modern and older prints would hold my attention longest - although it all looks fascinating! Imagine walking down a corridor of real life Cherry blossom!
Way to tour yesterday! I’m good with the very 70’s jazzy Emmie, including nice extra noises from the record. Even better is the cover art, and also the delicious last name of Frangipane! Now to the photo album…thanks for sharing…will have to play NYT a few more times…
