Still counting down to the Irish festivities and the next livestream on 17th March! This is a piece from the Irish Examiner about Tom and Ireland... I can imagine he's well-loved there - brilliant ballads, songs that tell stories, no truck with self-importance or being a celebrity... Nice to read of an encounter with him described as 'tender' - it's not the first word that might come to mind for those hearing his gruff voice for the first time. But we know that, under the surface, Tom's a romantic with a heart of gold... I like the bit about the holiday (honeymoon?) in Ireland, too - a crisis around even corner, sheep, cattle...!! Look out for another Tom Waits song in the next livestream - and the next, and the next... :)
Waiting in Ireland

Brilliant! You'll most likely find him popping up in unexpected places from now... :))
For the sake of authenticity, I had Irish male Siri read the article to me while I made lunch. Leave it to you to weave Tom Waits into St. Pat’s :D I got my intro to Tom Waits via my brother’s music collection. I was listening to his tape in the car and the classical violinist riding along with me (the one pretending to be asleep in the backseat) said, “I took a class about Tom Waits in college.” What?!? It turns out Oberlin Conservatory is a free-for-all where the students can teach classes to each other and the dorms are coed by room. Utopia is in rural Ohio :D
So is the TW song in your next episode going to be Martha?
After viewing you singing it, I realised I had just heard Bette Midlers version a few days previously. She had been his girlfriend at one point and changed the words slightly.
